Make sure to disconnect any cables or power cords before you start unscrewing the back. You should also make sure to ground yourself by touching a metal component, such as the Wii U’s aluminum case, before you start to avoid any static electricity shocks. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, you’ll need to carefully remove all the screws from the sides and bottom. Once the screws are removed, gently lift the back casing away from the body of the console. If your system contains a fan and heat sink cover, carefully unscrew the screws holding the cover in place and remove it. Be sure to also remove any thermal paste inside the cover. With the fan and heat sink cover removed, you can now easily access the memory, hard drive and optical drive of the system. Use compressed air to clean any dust, debris or other contaminants from the components. Once you have finished cleaning, replace the heat sink cover and all the screws to the back casing, making sure that the back panel is tightly sealed. Finally, reconnect all the cables and power cords that you disconnected and your Wii U should be ready to go.
